December Forest Seminar: A year end celebration of our forests

Free

Description

Join us for our annual end of year celebration of our forests on December 9th at 10:00 am!

This year's theme will address  two key environmental challenges that need immediate attention: climate change and biodiversity loss. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), there is alarming evidence that important tipping points, leading to irreversible changes in major ecosystems and the planetary climate system, may have already been reached or passed. And, according to the United Nations Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), the health of ecosystems on which we and all other species depend is deteriorating more rapidly than ever.

Join us for a discussion on how these major challenges are being addressed with some progressive initiatives in our local region. Once you register for the event, an email will be sent to you several days before the meeting with information on how to sign up for the webinar. We will also be hosting a test webinar the day before for those who would like to test out the software to make sure it is working - details on this will also be sent out via email.

Feature presentations include:

Sustainable Forest Management Impact on Climate Change and Biodiversity Conservation - Malcolm Cockwell, Managing Director, Haliburton Forest

How Forest-farms can Help in Conserving Biodiversity -  Bob Dobson, Dobson Farm, Cobden

A Quick Overview of Climate Change and Related CFS Tools for Forest Adaptation -  Dan McKenney, Research Scientist and John Pedlar, Biologist, Canadian Forest Service
