Get Certified

Own a Woodlot?

If you do, consider getting it certified!  Your woodlot can be FSC-certified, as can the timber and non-timber forest products that you harvest from it.  If you haven’t already done so, check out the Forest Certification Program by clicking this purple title or by going to Activity Areas > Forest Certification.  To get the ball rolling, fill out our Get Certified form.  If you choose to go through our straightforward and supportive process, you'll learn all about sustainable forest management, you'll meet many like-minded people, and you'll be ensuring that your woodlot remains a valuable resource for generations.  Depending on which area you live in, you will become part of a certified woodlot owners group – a great opportunity for networking and sharing forest management experiences.  As a certified woodlot owner you will also receive a complimentary membership in the EOMF.

Demand for FSC-certified forest products is on the rise both in Canada and internationally.  Our region of Ontario holds the highest density of FSC-certified forests (private, community and Crown-owned), and demonstrates the regional commitment to sustainable forestry.  The FSC is an international, non-profit organization that supports environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests. The FSC was founded in Canada in 1993 by representatives from environmental groups, the timber industry, the forestry profession, Aboriginal organizations, and community forestry groups.  There are over 100 million hectares of FSC-certified forests in 80 countries.
